Mise-En Scene Excercise

Writer's picture: Jennifer SalcudeanJennifer Salcudean

Today in Class we had to analyse a picture that would represent Love and Affection.

We picked this scene from the movie The Notebook because it has multiple elements that represent that idea.

First of all the lighting is realistic and and it takes place in the 1940s in a woods.

The characters are casually dressed and their facial expressions and body language show us that they are happy and in love.

In the scene we have 4 characters that ride bikes and their positioning show us that they also are couples.

The scene takes place in a woods on a dusty road and the colour of the image is very warm and bright, this shows us that the characters are having a good time on a relaxed afternoon with their friends.

The girls are sitting on the front of the bikes, more specifically on the handlebar , this means that they feels safe and they trust their partners. Their bright smiles and goofy body language make us feel the atmosphere and alsoo feel good with them.

The whole scene shows us the ideal teenage love experience in the 40's.
